About Abdominoplasty in Monterey
A lot of men and women, due to genetics or as a results of changes to the body after pregnancy or weight loss, have a protruding abdomen, characterized by overstretched muscles and loose, sagging skin. Despite a healthy diet and exercise, they remain unhappy with the shape of their midsection.
A tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) with Monterey plastic surgeon Dr. Douglas Sunde can help to reduce the size of the abdomen, creating a flatter and firmer midsection and eliminating excess, sagging skin from the belly.
Desired Results of Tummy Tuck Plastic Surgery
An abdominoplasty with Dr. Sunde can restore the shape and contour of the tummy. After a tummy tuck procedure, the abdomen may be smaller and flatter, while appearing lean and toned.
For many patients, improved comfort and self-confidence are the main factors motivating them to have abdominoplasty. After pregnancy or significant weight loss, many patients find this procedure helps them regain the fit appearance that better reflects their active lifestyle and fit comfortably into form-fitting clothing once again.
An Individualized Approach
During the personal consultation, Dr. Sunde listens to a patient’s concerns and realistically discusses the tummy tuck procedure goals. Together with the doctor, each patient will decide the on the treatment plan that will best achieve these goals. Once a date for surgery is set, our office will provide instructions about how to prepare.
Any individual at or near a healthy weight who has tried unsuccessfully to tone a protruding belly through dieting and exercise may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck procedure.
Tummy Tuck Procedure Details
Depending on a patient’s goals, Dr. Sunde performs one of two tummy tuck procedures: a full abdominoplasty or a partial abdominoplasty, also known as a mini tummy tuck. If a patient is mainly concerned with loose skin on the lower belly, Dr. Sunde will make an incision along the lower abdomen, removing excess fat and skin while tightening the abdominal muscles.
If a patient wants to see more dramatic results, he can perform a full abdominoplasty procedure. This is typically needed when a patient has noticeably overstretched muscles across the lower and upper abdomen. It is a more extensive surgery, but is therefore a more thorough and effective technique to reduce the size of the abdomen. Dr. Sunde often performs liposuction in conjunction with a tummy tuck procedure.
For both types of tummy tucks, Dr. Sunde can usually make the incision well below the belly button, so the resulting scar can be hidden by most clothing, including swimsuit bottoms.
